I have a smart kid...

....If I do say so myself!  Thank goodness for that because I always worry about having a dumb kid.  I'm sure I'll have one sooner or later.  Each 'brood' has the one screw up.  Right??!  Anyway...so I have been trying to get Sofia to say her own name.  She usually looks at me and just turns away.  That will continue to happen throughout her life so I'm getting used to it.

Anyway today I sat her in the chair and pulled out paper and colors and she started doodling.  No, she didn't draw a masterpiece but she did say "Sososia"  At first I was like "what the heck is that?"  Then I asked her "is that your name? Sofia??" And she said it again!!!  So now when I ask "what's your name?" her response is "Sososia".  :)  How cool is that??

I have a genius on my hand. I think she'll start teaching me algebra by the time she's 5.  Mark my words.  Ok fine...maybe not algebra, but definitely her ABCs. :)

Do I have issues?

And please, not everyone say "yes".  :)  So this is why I ask....

So if there is ever a time when Sofia has a special occasion to go ie, birthday party, I will literally think every day of the week what she's going to wear.  And I'm not even kidding.  So in my head I know ALL of the suitable outfits she has for public viewing.  Yes, she has clothes that will only be worn inside my house.  Anyway, so all week I'm thinking "what will she wear?"  And as I'm going through each potential outfit I also have to think whether or not she's been photographed in such outfit.  Because if she has, she will NOT wear it because I will more than likely take pictures. DUH!!!!!!!!!!

And I also won't put an outfit on her if the people we will be hanging out with has already seen her in it.  Ok...maybe I DO have issues.  ANYWAY...so once I've figured it out, I put it on her and I usually hate it.  Poor Sofia has to endure at least 2 or 3 outfit changes before I let her leave the house.  This past Saturday I changed her 3 times and I changed her shoes 3 times.  She was wearing this odd color of pink that I didn't have shoes for.  I have pink sandals but none matched perfectly.  THEN I remembered we did have shoes that matched.  As I put them on her I quickly realized that she shoes were one size too small.  Now, Sofia and I have had the conversation that fashion comes before comfort, so she wore them. :)  AND they were open sandals so it's not like her feet were turning purple or anything.  Her toes may or may not have been touching the ground -- but like I said "fashion BEFORE comfort". :)

AND the worst part -- people noticed. Thank GOD they were all family.  I told them my reasoning. They agreed that I have issues.

One time Boogie's brother was taking her to the store and the outfit was HIDEOUS!!!!!!  Thank God I was coming in and saw her before she left. I immediately changed her, did her hair and put on cute shoes.

What's sad is that I could care less what I look like.  And please no smart comments about how maybe I should. :)

ANYWAY!!!!!  Ok, I'm crazy. :)  What do you think?

Men have periods too.

I am convinced.  I won't say any names, but Boogie is on my nerves today!!!  I don't even know what I did to make him mad. And I'm definitely NOT asking.  Maybe he's not mad at me but he sure is acting like it.

He walks in and doesn't even say HELLO!  We aren't those couples that run to each other when we get  home and give each other a biggo kiss.  Hell we don't even kiss half the time. But we do acknowledge each other's presence with a "hello dear".  I think he was trying to scare me because he walked in with his sunglasses ON! LOL!! He did remind me of Blade, just a Mexican version. But in a plumber's outfit, not leather.  Thank goodness for that.

So he calls for his princess from the room. As I am about to get up, he then says "where is my princess Sofia?" What? He wasn't calling me?? HOW RUDE!!!!  He's never called me his princess but I wishful thinking on my part.

Well maybe he'll tell me later why he's mad.  I'll let you know what he says.

TGIF

I always think it's funny that people are SO very excited when Friday gets here.  Everyone is  always ready for the weekend!  And then when Monday arrives, people start talking about the weekend again!  When it was just over.  Does anyone ever enjoy the days in the middle??  I find it hard to believe that out of the 7 days of the week, no one cares for Wednesday or even Thursday???

Don't get me wrong, I love Fridays and I LOVE the weekends but I like the weekdays too.  Poor Tuesday and Wednesday, they never get any love.  You never hear anyone say "man, I am SOO glad today is MONDAY!"

I swear I'm not drunk, these are just things that go through my head.
BUT THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)  Enjoy your weekend people.

Crazy Sofia

So I have decided that Sofia's new name is "Crazy Sofia" because my child is NUTS!!  This is my first kid so I don't know how to compare her to others, but I often wonder if there are other kids out there her age that have such a personality.  And I don't say that just because she's MY kid, but this girl cracks me up!

For instance, last night we were relaxing and "talking" in the room. I do most of the REAL talk and she babbles some words.  Well she loves, loves, loves playing with my phone. Well just yesterday, she figured out how to take pictures. She realized if she pushed the button on the side, the camera automatically appeared.  It took me at least 3 months to figure that one out.  Well I let her play with it and didn't think much of it.  Well then I hear repeatedly saying "CHEESE!"  Again, I figured she was still playing. As I was going through my phone and through the pictures, I found this one.

That's right, my almost two-year old daughter is taking self portraits of herself -- just like every other kid on Facebook!!!  Lord help me!!!  But I couldn't help but laugh.  Pretty funny huh?  There is never a dull moment in my house with this child...thank goodness!

Lankford's Grocery

Have you ever been to this place?  Well if you haven't, you MUST!!  They have GOOD food. They were even featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives". :)

I've only ever gone on Thursdays -- because Thursdays are Chicken Fried Steak day.  This is probably the best CFS I've EVER had. Seriously.  Here is a picture:

Yes, ladies and gents -- this here is a heart attack on a plate. But it's sooooo freaking good.  The mashed potatoes are divine!  I asked for the potatoed to come without chives but it has cheese, sour cream, butter and REAL bacon on top.  They are better than ANY baked potato I've ever tasted.  They have lots of pepper in them too which gives the potatoes an extra kick. The bread is good but I focused most of my attention to that steak!  I will admit that today the steak was drier and tougher than usual, but still tasty. I always find that the breading of a CFS is super salty and it makes them hard to eat. Well this breading is perfect too!  I ordered a full order and should NOT have.  If you ever go on a Thursday and order this, get the half.  I left a lot of food and I was STUFFED!  And you see how fat I AM! :D

I hear that they have excellent burgers so I think the next time I visit I am going to try it. I'll let you know how it goes.

16 and Pregnant

When this show was first aired, I watched it.  I watched it because everyone else did and because it seemed interesting.  But the more I watched, the more my blood pressure went up.  The kids that were on this show were DUMB and really did NOT need to be having babies.  But I guess the original point of the show was to show idiot teenagers that having a baby at a young age is HARD. Hell...it's hard when you're old like me!

Anyway, I stopped watching the show for my health. :) Well yesterday I heard that the couple that was going to be featured on the finale show was from Pasadena, Texas!!  I HAD to watch.  I turned it on a few minutes late so I wasn't able to get the story on how these two met. But boy, did the show take a turn for the worse within 3 minutes of me watching it.

Anyway, so the kids were kicked out of somewhere and they decided to go stay with the boy's grandmother for a while. The boys mom picked up the couple and dropped them off.  As the couple, the boy's mom and the little brother were sitting in the living room, the mom asked the girl to pass her youngest son a banana. The girl tosses it to the youngest son and he in turn gives it to the mom.  So the mom starts saying to the girl that she didn't need to throw it and that it hit the couch, BLAH BLAH BLAH! The conversation continues like this:

Mom: You really get on my nerves Allison...you really do.
Allison: I don't care.
Mom: Then go live with your dad then.
Allison: We can't live with my dad, he doesn't take care of us. That's why we're here.
Mom: You aren't my daughter!!!!!!! I don't have to take care of you BITCH. FUCK YOU LITTLE GIRL!!!

Ummmm...really??????????  How mature of this mother.  I know her son isn't in the best of a situation right now but cussing out the mother of your grandchild that is 15 years old isn't going to solve anything!  So the crazy mom starts telling little Allison that her own parents didn't want her and that she's not surprised, etc.  Classy.

So the mom gets up and charges at the PREGNANT 15 year old and her son gets in the way to protect her.  He pushes her away as she is trying to hit pregnant Allison and the mom freaks out EVEN MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The crazy mom calls HER mom and tells her that the boy hit her in the mouth (lie) and that she's going to kick Allison's ass because it's her fault.  OMG...this was going nowhere fast.  At one point the mom is talking to herself and says "If I knew it was going to be like this, I would have aborted you".  That's right. She looks at her son and tells him she wishes he was NEVER born.  REALLY LADY???????  This poor kid is going to need major counseling.

Well then we find out that the crazy mom is a drug addict. And she says it out loud many times during the show. I guess she's proud of herself.  Whatever.

Well I had high hopes for this couple. The boy seemed like a good kid and Allison was pretty smart (besides the fact that she got pregnant at 15).  Anyway, the baby comes and the dad is useless.  As all men are but whatever.  So Allison sticks it out for 3 months or so, graduates high school and leaves town! She is originally from New Jersey but I never found out how she got to Pasadena, Texas.  From one stinky town to another...poor girl.

Anyway, next week is the show where they have all the couples from the season and they talk to them about catch up with them.  The previews look GOOD!!!!!!!  I'm going to watch.

Oh, and the crazy dope head mom goes to rehab and gets clean.  I guess someone told her this was going to be on NATIONAL TV....

GO DVR 16 AND PREGNANT!!! It will make you feel better about yourself. :)

Wait -- is that RAIN?

I can't remember a time when Houston was in a drought.  I mean, it ALWAYS rains here but lately, it has been dry!  So dry in fact that there have been wild fires in the area. HOW SCARY!!!!  I can't even imagine what it's like to lose your belongings in a fire....my heart goes out to those that have.

But this morning as I was laying in bed, I heard rumbling. At first I thought it was a truck passing by then I opened my eyes, and the room was DARK! Then I thought "YES...it's still night time and I can sleep some more". Then I realized I had already told Boogie "bye" as he left for work so it was actually morning. LOL!

Anyway, I woke up to a nice rain.  But the sad part is that the dirt is so dry, it didn't even look liked it rained.  So I am praying that it keeps raining and raining so that the wildfires are put out and my grass in my yard turns green again.

I say we start doing the Rain Dance until we have enough. Who's with me?

Oh and I can tell you one thing I HATE about the rain? Is that my Facebook news feed is ALL about it raining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Can we talk about something else please?  That's all.

People annoy me!

I have posted many times about the annoying things people do on Facebook.  Well here is another one.

People who can't spell!!!!  Where do these people come from?  I HATE when idiots don't know which "their" or "there" to use.  I HATE HATE when people are SO FREAKING lazy to use "THE" so they use "DA". I mean really??  It gets on my freaking nerves!! And if you are one of those people, please stop!!!!! :) You would make my blood pressure so much happier.

I have complained about this before, but people who HI-JACK other people's statuses are the worst offenders on FB if you ask me.  If you want people to know what's going on in your life, they will ask you! Or if you really want people to know, post that shit on YOUR Facebook page, send an email, send a text...something!!!  I especially hate it when person #A says "Yay...we're having a girl".  Then Idiot #b comes and posts and says "I'm having a girl too".  NO ONE CARES and NO ONE ASKED YOU!!  The correct response should be "CONGRATS!!!!!"  I know FB has brought every one's business in one place for the world to see. I get it..but again, do it on your own time and on your own page.  Leave everyone else alone and leave appropriate responses!!!   Another example  from person #A "Booked my vacation to Brazil!!"  Idiot #2 comes and says "OMG, I'm going on vacation too! I'm going to be in the Bahamas for two weeks and I am so excited".  REALLY??????  Did they ask you???  The status did NOT say "Please let me know where you're going on vacation this summer, because I really care and want to know"  The appropriate response should have been along the lines of  "How exciting!! I can't wait to see pictures from your trip. HAVE FUN!"  Is that sooooo hard??

I think I need to host a Facebook Etiquette class.  Most people would FAIL!!

Ok..I'm done.

Iron Chef

Please tell me you watch this show...because I do.  And if you haven't noticed, I watch a LOT of tv.  Whatever, don't judge me.  Even though you will anyway.  ANYWAY, if you love The Food Network and enjoy watching OTHER people cook, this show and channel is for you. Promise.

Well one of my favorite shows (I have many) on this channel is Iron Chef.  There is a panel of judges that judge the food of two chefs.  There is the "IRON" Chef and a not-so-IRON  "tin"chef and they compete.  The Iron Chef is one of the many chefs that are famous these days. I LOVE to watch when Bobby Flay gets chosen to compete against the loser  other guy/girl.  I have come to the realization that I have a tiny crush on Mr. Bobby Flay. I love his red hair and let's be honest -- any man that knows how to cook is SUPER hot!!  I know you ladies agree.

Anyway, so besides these two chef's competing against other, the other part that is important is that there is a secret ingredient each show. So these two chef's have to create 5 dishes with the secret ingredient in ONE hour!! 60 minutes!!!  It takes me that long to get the meat out of the fridge and then look at it for 30 minutes and wonder what the heck I'm going to do with it!  Then I spend the other 30 minutes trying to figure out how to convince Boogie that we don't need to even eat dinner! LOL!!

Anyway, I don't know how they do this. They make FIVE courses!!  They do have other sous chef's that help them but STILL!!  Today's episode's secret ingredient was BACON!! YUMMO!!!!!!!!!!  I want to be a judge on this show. LUCKY THEM!!!!!!  And 9 times out of 10, the IRON chef wins...DUH!!! I feel sorry for the loser but really?? You really thought you were going to win??

Just watch. You will like it!

Theresa Rodriguez

My Theresa is leaving me!!  Well she got a new job so she's leaving GHP but she's still leaving!!!!!  Theresa and I have worked together since 2003.  I actually started working here a week before her and she didn't like me at first. Can you believe it? Someone didn't like ME!!!!! :)

Turns out I was a big starer and Theresa didn't appreciate that. BUT when she first got here she was always falling asleep at her desk so yeah, I stared. :)  BUT as you all know, now we love each other very much and we will be forever friends. :)

I will miss seeing her face and all her black suits. I will miss being able to dial extension 658 and hear her voice on the other end.  I will miss looking at my phone and seeing her extension looking back at me.

But even though she's leaving GHP, our friendship will not end.  Even if I wanted it to, she would find me. :)  I love my Theresa and I will cherish all our GHP and non-GHP memories!!

The picture below is my ALL-TIME favorite picture that was taken with my GHP friends.  It was taken at a birthday celebration for Jill and I.  No one was sober at the end and I don't think anyone was sober when this picture was taken.  Don't we all look so happy....and drunk?? :)  Look at Daniel's flip phone. LOL!!!! Hilarious.

Reagan Isabel Skrabanek

Miss Reagan Isabel Skrabanek was born June 8, 2011 at 8:20 p.m.  She weighed in at 5lbs and 9oz and was 17 inches long.  I went to see her in person last night and she is PERFECT in every way.  She's so small and petite that she almost looks fake!!! I'm not even joking.  I'm not used to small babies.  See Sofia.

Mommy and Daddy are just over the moon in love with this precious child.  Vanessa said she won't even put her down!!  I don't know anything about that because I surely did NOT carry Sofia all the time. Vanessa asked me "didn't you just want to hold her FOREVER" I  quickly replied "ummm...NO!"  LOL! Does that make me a bad mother?  And she also doesn't want to send her to the nursery so that she can sleep. I also don't understand this logic.  The hospital is the last time you have 24-hour babysitting service...and these people are licensed and everything!!!  I tried to be super mom one night and keep Sofia with me. But that ended as soon as she woke up for the 1st time and I was so sleepy I couldn't even open my eyes.  I did feel guilty but I got over it as soon as I passed out! :) I told Vanessa that she likes her kid WAY more than I liked mine.  Ok so that's a lie but I wasn't in the mood to carry Sofia every second of every moment of every day! I hope there are other mothers out there like me! Hello....?

Anyway, I tried not to stay long but I looked up and we had been there TWO hours. But I was so entranced with this child I didn't want to leave!!!  Carrying her last night makes me want another one...but not now. Maybe later. :)

She is absolutely beautiful.  Paul and Vanessa are so very blessed!!!!  Congrats to them!

Look at this precious girl!

I love that she looks Asian!  Well she's half so it makes sense but STILL!!

She is soooo tiny! I love it.

Baby Shower!

I can't believe that tomorrow is Michele's baby shower. I swear I feel like I've been planning this thing since January. And I'm sure in my head I have.  I really hope everything comes together like I picture it in my head.  I am taking the afternoon off today to gather last minute items and just make sure I have everything I need!!!

Michele is super anxious because she doesn't know what anything looks like!!!! It's been a great pleasure seeing her squirm in her seat. :)  But alas, tomorrow is the day and she will hopefully love everything.

I will post later on all the details and of course post pictures!

A little girl named Sofia came in to my life.  And I'm so glad she did!!!

October never felt so close!!! Time to really start party planning. :) Updates to come later.  Stay tuned people!

The NBA Finals

The NBA finals are continuing this week.  I haven't paid attention to the NBA since the last time the Houston Rockets won.  Which I am embarrassed to announce was more than 10 years ago!!  Not only has it been that long since the Rockets were any good, but I was way younger too!

Anyway, the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks are fighting to win the big championship.  I normally don't care but since a Texas team is playing, I am paying a little more attention. But since I hate anything Dallas (COWBOYS SUCK!) and Lebron James is extremely annoying, it was hard to pick a team I wanted to win. I could have just not picked any team but what's the fun in that?

I have decided to be the bigger person and sorta-kinda-almost pick Dallas. And not necessarily do I want them to win, but since I am a Texan through-and-through, I am almost obligated to want Dallas to win.  Is that wrong of me since Dallas is a horrible place to live and play?  I mean, c'mon, any smart person knows that Houston is the place to be when it comes to living in this great state of Texas!!!  So what if they had an ENTIRE show named after them.  WHO cares that the only real theme park is near them (this one hurts my heart).  WHO cares that their teams win more than ours.  Poor Astros.  Dumb Rockets. Sucky ass Texans.

Dang, our teams DO suck.

Miami is leading the series 2-1.  It's still any one's trophy to win.  You can't count either team out until someone officially wins.  So let's see how this plays out.  Tomorrow is the 4th game and a crucial one.  At least it's entertainment for me since there is no real TV on during the summer!

Anyway, since I have to have an opinion on everything, I wanted you to know where I stood on the NBA finals. :)  Now your life is complete. You're welcome.

Has this ever happened to you?

So you are at work and need to use the girls/boys room.  You walk in and no one is there.  This is my favorite time to go. Although the stalls are separate and you are in  your own private space, it's still weird to me that we use the restroom with strangers.

ANYWAY!!!!  So you take care of business, wash your hands and you hear a flush. WTH?  Oh shit (no pun intended)...someone was here the WHOLE TIME!  Maybe this is just me but I start to think "was I talking to myself?"  "Was I loud using the restroom?"  This freaks me out!! So I always hurry up and wash my hands and leave before they have time to leave the stall.  I'm so serious!  And this happened to me today and it happens at least once a week.
I hope this happens to everyone else too. Or just tell me it does so that I feel better.

Summer Television

I love the summer because it means dumb kids are out and traffic is wonderful.  BUT I also hate the summer because TV SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And I am not exaggerating here.

Last night I watched "So You Think You Can Dance" and I was so bored!!!!  Why didn't I change the channel you ask?  I don't know. :)  I couldn't help myself.  And I guess since I only know how to "Boot Scoot" and move my hips to Black Eyes Peas, everyone that was dancing looked the SAME!!  I don't get it.  I was falling asleep.

And the previews for the new shows this summer look even worse.  There's a knock-off of "The Amazing Race" on ABC.  I hate people who copy!  And there's ANOTHER show about doctor's saving lives.  Sorry, I stopped watching Grey's two years ago. I can't commit to another doctor show.

OH wait.  I AM excited about the show on The Food Network. I don't remember the name but they look for the next Food Network Star.  Wait, I think that's the name of the show. LOL! Anyway, I watched for the 1st time last summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. Maybe it's because when I cook at home, I like to pretend I'm Rachel Ray. I promise. But don't tell anyone and don't judge me.

If you know of any shows that are worth my time, please let me know.  I would greatly appreciate it.

Month 6

The month of June is here.  Can you believe it?  The month of June means that there are 6 months until 2011 is OVER.  Yes. That's right.  OVER. DONEZO.  Crazy right?  June also means that in 4 months, Sofia will be two years old.  Again. TWO. DOS.  What the heck people???

AND let's not forget Houstonians, that June 1 marks the start of the highly anticipated Hurricane season. I HATE HURRICANE SEASON!!!!!!!!!!  Ok, except when it's not a catastrophic one and the lights don't go out and no one dies and we get to stay home. :)  Those kinds of weather incidents, I absolutely love.   So look in your pantries and make sure you have your hurricane survival kit ready!  Who am I kidding? I don't even have one...but maybe now I will get one together.  BUT if another hurricane like Ike comes this way, this Mexican will NOT be here.  Sofia and I and whomever else wants to come will have a mini-vacation in the valley with my peeps! :) So if my valley peeps are reading, you have been forewarned.

But if you don't know what a hurricane kit is, I have stolen this link from Miami.  It appears to be very helpful.  And don't ask why it's from Miami. Blame Google. :)
http://www.miamigov.com/fire/DEM/pages/EmergencyManagement/Hurricane/Survival%20Kit.pdf

Anyway, I hope your June is off to a great start.  Enjoy the other half of the year people! :)
